The racial tensions among various ethnic and social groups have been prevalent in American history since the beginning, leading to many riots. Such riots have been evident in the communities since the Industrial Revolution; however, comprehensive leadership and advocacy strategies may mitigate such tensions’ after-effects.

The crisis occasionally disables the individuals or the group of people from making an adequate decision. The term crisis predominately refers to a situation where the individuals are unable to find an appropriate solution. Indeed, it is a situation of being submissive to the circumstances and wait for the crisis to pass by. However, the leaders and advocates do not just sit idle and wait for the crisis to go away itself; instead, they identify the reasons for such a crisis to eliminate or mitigate such happenings in the future. Another important role the leadership and advocacy play is to deal with the after-effects of the crisis and mitigate the post-trauma outcomes. It is ironic to state that many crises related to racial and ethnic differences have occurred in the USA; nonetheless, such crises prevail in modern times (Hermann-Turner et al., 2019). A career path provides an opportunity for an individual to accomplish personal goals and objectives; however, such a path is also endangered with the crises’ possibilities. The most related crisis in the higher education setting is a riot among students because of some racial tension. The racial tensions among various ethnic and social groups have been prevalent in American history since the beginning, leading to many riots. Such riots have been evident in the communities since the Industrial Revolution; however, comprehensive leadership and advocacy strategies may mitigate such tensions’ after-effects.

Leadership Strategy:

Leadership plays the most important role in any education setting, including higher education. It is the professors’ primary duty to address such issues to eliminate the future occurring of such crises. The professors as leaders may also play an important role in mitigating post-trauma situations by converting them into new opportunities. The professors must incorporate equality at the universities or the colleges to mitigate the possibility of such happenings. The professors must incorporate the diverse cultural approach in their leadership and teaching style to accept all students being impartial. The transformational leadership strategy is most appropriate for dealing with such issues. The teachers must adapt to specific situations, and the same attitude would be transformed in the students. The professors as primary leaders must be more considerate towards all students and eliminate bullying through proper counseling. The leadership strategy is related to deal with the outcomes of crisis to transform such challenges into opportunities. The professors focus on listening to the students’ opinions belonging to racial or ethnic groups. The educational administrators must develop counseling sessions for the teachers and the students to reduce the partial behavior towards specific racial and ethnic groups, including bullying. The educational leaders, including the administrators and the teachers, must incorporate the human development courses and the multicultural and ethical courses to educate the employees to a certain degree (Hermann-Turner et al., 2019). The educational administrators must develop a culture of equal opportunities in educational settings to minimize discrimination; thus, such a crisis is expected to be reduced in the future.

Advocacy Strategy:

Advocacy also plays an important role in mitigating such occurrences in the future through proper counseling and supervision. Community advocacy would play an important role in mitigating the post-crisis situation in educational settings, including colleges and universities. The educational counselors may develop many programs that would support equality among the students and employees to eliminate discrimination to a great extent. The educational counselors apply the strategy of engaging with the students, teachers, and administrators while developing relevant courses to reduce such crises in the whole community. The counselors may go through the technique and theory courses to develop a counseling manual to educate the teachers and students regarding the racial tensions (Hermann-Turner et al., 2019). The counselors must educate the communities to accept cross-cultures; indeed, the students from different cultures may bring ethical and moral values to the educational settings. Advocacy can play a pivotal role in dealing with the aftermath of such crises by educating the community through proper counseling and supervision.

Conclusion:

The crises are inevitable, and no one can eliminate such outings; however, the leaders and the advocates, including other stakeholders of the society, may mitigate the aftermath. Racial tensions have always been prevalent in American society, including the higher education settings, and have resulted in some crises. The riots among racial and ethnic groups have occurred at the universities or colleges, which sometimes led to a disaster. The educational leadership in such settings must use the appropriate strategies to reduce the racial tensions among students and teachers. The educational counselors also use adequate counseling strategies to educate the individuals; thus, such events can be reduced.
